Boosting the U.S. fruit industry with two cutting-edge technologies.

According to a recent survey conducted by the digital portal Growing Produce, the adoption of innovative agricultural technologies is revolutionizing fruit production in the United States.

The products creating the most value are biological control and precision farming, which are making a significant impact by reducing pesticide use and improving overall production efficiency.

The survey was conducted among 634 fresh fruit and nut growers across the country and revealed that these technologies achieved a high satisfaction level among those who have implemented them.

1. Biopesticides

The most remarkable finding of the survey was that 62% of respondents utilized biopesticides in the last year, with 34% using biostimulants and 32% opting for biofertilizers. Among specific crops, 61% of pome fruit growers (apples and pears) integrated a biological product, followed closely by stone fruit growers (peach, plum, cherry, and apricot) at 49%.

Grapes, berries, and citrus crops have also benefited from applying biological products. Impressively, only 4% of the respondents reported any dissatisfaction with the results in any of these mentioned crops.

2. Precision Agriculture

The survey revealed that precision agriculture has made a lasting impression on farmers nationwide. Out of the 19 precision agriculture tools included in the study, a remarkable 70% of farmers expressed satisfaction with the results. Notably, weather stations, sensors, and GPS systems emerged as the most popular tools in this category.

Farmers employing these technologies reaped several significant benefits, including reduced pesticide usage, enhanced efficiency in irrigation management, and substantial cost savings. Some respondents emphasized that applying pesticides based on data collected by precision farming sensors led to a considerable reduction in the volume of chemicals used, thereby promoting greater environmental sustainability.

Time to invest in technology

This survey underscores the positive outcomes experienced by fruit producers who invest in technology. Their high level of satisfaction encourages them to recommend these tools to other farmers and drives technological adoption throughout the industry.
