Raspberry Producing Regions in Mexico

In Mexico, raspberry production occurs mainly in the northern and central regions of the country and the domestic raspberry industry is estimated to be worth about $60 million dollars, with the vast majority of Mexican raspberry farms being small family businesses.

Jalisco is one of the leading raspberry growing states in Mexico, due to several reasons, including climatic and soil conditions; soils drain quite well, which is a key factor in raspberry cultivation, and the warm climate is ideal for raspberry plants.

Key raspberry producing states in Mexico

The states that lead raspberry production in Mexico are Jalisco, Michoacán, Baja California, Guanajuato and Puebla with 99.9% of the national volume in 2021, or 165,533 tonnes.

Jalisco, in the 1st position, produced 116,340 tonnes of raspberry (70.2%), volume obtained from 6,296 hectares harvested (73.9%), so the average yield in the state was 18.5 tonnes per hectare.

Of the 5 states with the highest production, Michoacán obtained the highest average yield, with 25.8 tonnes per hectare, while the highest price per tonne was obtained in Baja California with 74,514 pesos.

In terms of the production value, Jalisco led with 3,514 million pesos, accounting for 52.2% of the national total, followed by Michoacán and Baja California with 27.8% and 17.8%, respectively.

Key raspberry producing municipalities in Mexico

The 10 municipalities with the highest raspberry production in Mexico during 2021 were Jocotepec, Zapotlán el Grande, Ensenada, Zamora, Tuxcueca, Zapotiltic, Tangancícuaro, Tizapán El Alto, Jacona and Tuxpan, which accounted for 87.2% of the national volume, or 144,484 tonnes.

Jocotepec, in the 1st position, produced 44,650 tonnes (27.0%), although Zapotlán el Grande was the municipality with the largest harvested area with 2,571 hectares (30.2%), but being Jocotepec the municipality that obtained the highest production value, with 1,497 million pesos (22.2%).
