Colombia’s main exports: coffee, bananas, and avocados driving agricultural growth
Colombia has become one of the most important players in global agricultural exports, driven by its diverse climate, and high-quality products, like the worldwide popular Colombian coffee.
In 2024, exports from Colombia reached record levels, with coffee, bananas, and avocados standing out as key drivers, and with the United States and Europe as the main export destinations.
Rising demand: The U.S. and Europe lead the market
The United States is the top destination for Colombian agricultural exports, accounting for 41% of total export value (USD 4.015 billion) and 23% of total volume. Demand for flagship products such as coffee and avocados has grown significantly.
Europe represents 25% of total export value, led by the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Spain. The Netherlands alone accounts for 20% of value and 17% of volume, serving as the main entry point for Colombian products into Europe.
Other key destinations include Canada, Ecuador, Japan, China, Venezuela, Mexico, and Chile, reflecting the growing diversification of Colombia’s agricultural exports.
What are Colombia’s biggest exports in the ag sector?
Green coffee, bananas, and avocados are Colombia’s top exports in the agricultural sector, representing around 40% of total export value.
Other products such as limes, lemons, mangoes, guavas, and oranges also stand out, strengthening Colombia’s fresh fruit portfolio in international markets.
1. Coffee
Colombian coffee remains the country’s emblematic product and Colombia’s biggest export in agriculture. In 2024, export volume grew 16.5%, reaching 739,000 metric tons, according to the National Federation of Coffee Growers.
The United States is the main buyer, accounting for 39.8% of total exports, with purchases up 12.2% compared to 2023. The price of Colombian coffee hit record highs in early 2025, reinforcing its position as one of the most valued coffees in the world.
2. Bananas
Colombian bananas continue to be a key pillar of agricultural exports. In 2024, the country exported 2.13 million tons, valued at USD 1.071 billion, well above 2023 levels.
Top destinations include Belgium (18.6%), the United States (16%), the United Kingdom (15.2%), Germany (14%), and Italy (13.4%), with Europe dominating this market.

Colombian avocados have shown outstanding growth. In 2024, exports reached USD 309 million and 138,000 tons, a major increase from 2023.
Almost 70% of shipments go to Europe, mainly the Netherlands and Spain, though the U.S. market has expanded rapidly since trade opened in 2017.
During the 2025 Super Bowl season, Colombia exported 6,512 tons of Hass avocados to the United States—a 350% increase year over year—demonstrating the remarkable rise of Colombian avocado exports.
