What was the production of the main exported produce in Mexico in 2021?

Mexico is the main exporter of avocados, tomatoes, chile peppers, red berries, among other products, so these crops represent a high economic value for the country, and some of these products are even the most produced in the country.

Recently, the Agricultural and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP by its Spanish acronym) published the data of the Agricultural Closing 2021, so below we present a production analysis of the main agricultural products exported in Mexico.

Avocado

In 2021, avocado production in Mexico was 2,442,945 tons, obtained from a harvested area of 226,534 hectares and with a production value of 50,538 million pesos. This production represented an increase of 2.1% over the 2,393,849 tons in 2020.

Avocado is the 3rd most produced fruit in Mexico, after orange and lime, but the first in terms of production value (50,538 million pesos). It is also the second agri-food product with the highest production value, only surpassed by corn grain.

Tomato

In 2021, tomato production in Mexico was 3,324,263 tons, obtained from a harvested area of 47,940 hectares and with a production value of 31,504 million pesos. This production represented a decrease of 3.6% compared to 3,370,827 tons in 2020.

Tomato is the most produced vegetable in Mexico, as well as the most economically important, although among all agri-food products, it ranks fourth in terms of production value.

Chile pepper

In 2021, chile pepper production in Mexico was 2,458,494 tons, obtained from a harvested area of 81,953 hectares and with a production value of 23,581 million pesos.

This production represented a decrease of 8.7% compared to 2,691,989 tons in 2020, with chile pepper being the second most produced vegetable in Mexico, as well as the 6th agri-food product with the highest production value.

Lemon

In 2021, lemon production in Mexico was 2,954,431 tons, obtained from a harvested area of 193,284 hectares and with a production value of 19,694 million pesos. This production represented an increase of 3.6% over the 2,851,427 tons in 2020.

Lemon is the second most produced fruit in Mexico, after orange, as well as the second with the highest production value, only after avocado, and ranking 9th among the agri-food products with the highest production value.

Broccoli

In 2021, broccoli production in Mexico was 596,389 tons, obtained from a harvested area of 34,191 hectares and with a production value of 4,005 million pesos. This production represented an increase of 2.2% over the 583,646 tons in 2020.

Broccoli is the eighth most produced vegetable in Mexico, as well as the eighth in terms of production value, ranking 37th among the agri-food products with the highest production value.

Strawberry

In 2021, strawberry production in Mexico was 542,891 tons, obtained from a harvested area of 11,905 hectares and with a production value of 10,991 million pesos. This production represented a decrease of 2.6% compared to 557,514 tons in 2020.

Raspberry

In 2021, raspberry production in Mexico was 165,677 tons, obtained from a harvested area of 8,520 hectares and with a production value of 6,731 million pesos. This production represented an increase of 13.2% compared to 146,350 tons in 2020.

Blackberry

In 2021, blackberry production in Mexico was 211,358 tons, obtained from a harvested area of 9,187 hectares and with a production value of 4,338 million pesos. This production represented a decrease of 2.1% compared to 215,924 tons in 2020.

Blueberry

In 2021, blueberry production in Mexico was 66,481 tons, obtained from a harvested area of 5,833 hectares and with a production value of 3,733 million pesos. This production represented a decrease of 2.1% compared to 215,924 tons in 2020.
